Apple Boot Camp let’s you run both Leopard and Windows on your Mac, but Boot Camp’s biggest drawback is its requirement that you reboot your computer every time you want to switch between Leopard and Windows. Two $80 remedies are readily available, Parallels Desktop from a Virginia startup, Parallels, Inc., and VMW are Fusion from VMware of Palo Alto, California.
Their respective software takes the form of a virtual machine. The programs simulate a Windows machine inside its own screen within OS X. Or, if you feel like it, you can go full-screen with Windows. The fake machine behaves just like the real deal. You can add software, surf the Web, listen to music, and play Windows games on a Mac.
Boot Camp simplifies the Windows installation on the new Intel Mac by providing a simple easy to use graphical assistant that dynamically creates a second partition on the MacIntosh HD. It then allows you to install Windows on that partition. Boot Camp then burns a CD using the Combo Drive or Super Drive with the required Windows drivers that. ForceDecks software is currently only compatible with Windows computers. Despite this, it is still possible to run Windows (and therefore ForceDecks) on a Mac computer, using one of two ’dual boot’ methods:
*Parallels Desktop for Mac; or
*Boot Camp.
We find that most of our Mac-user clients prefer Parallels, as this allows them to use Windows apps seamlessly alongside their Mac apps, whereas Boot Camp requires the computer to be restarted to switch between Mac and Windows.
The trade-off is that Boot Camp takes full advantage of all of the computer’s processors and RAM, while Parallels splits the processing power between Mac and Windows (which can lead to performance drops in less powerful computers).
